Cinque Terre is a popular tourist site with five (cinque) towns along the coast of the Ligurian Sea. Exploring by land you will find charming, colored buildings in the towns rising up from the sea. It was a whole other experience, and a more dramatic one, seeing it from the sea. One of the rocky places we passed was extremely breathtaking. Not knowing exactly what it was that I was seeing from the boat I had to later find out. It was Portovenere, often called the 6th town of the Cinque Terre. At the top is the Church of San Pietro (Chiesa di San Pietro), built on the ruins of a 2nd century pagan temple. With a beautiful town and this view, it is definitely on my list of places to visit.
